Antique railway bench

Antique railway bench

This stunning bench is crafted entirely of pitch pine and was made circa 1930's.

It is a solid piece that has loads of character. As mentioned, it is made entirely of pine, even the reversible back rest mechanism is attached using a wooden peg system.

The back rest is able to be pulled forward and backwards, making the seating face one way or another.
The bench would have been situated in the centre of a railway platform and this ingenious design meant that passengers could switch which side of the railway they faced whilst waiting for a train.

It's a very comfortable bench as the seating is carved in a slightly curved manner. The back rest is at the perfect angle to sit in a rested position and not too up right.

There is also a shelf crafted in to the bench which can be used to store books, magazines or other various objects if you wish.

Despite its age it only shows the usual signs of wear, including scuffs and scratches, some names carved in to the wood from bored passengers no doubt. This only adds to it's vintage charm.
