This rare antique is an African gun powder holder. 

It is pear shaped with a removable lid that is still attached by cord. 
It is beautifully decorated with etchings that would have been carved by hand. 

This container was used to carry black gun powder and is dated circa 1800's. These containers would have been crafted for Rulers or people of very high power. 

African rulers, who were the first to own muskets in africa, commissioned artists to make beautiful containers for the precious gunpowder that would be used to expand their territory and maintain their status as leaders.

This is a beautiful little container that is an authentic antique piece. 
It makes for an interesting decor piece nowadays.
