We are delighted to be the proud custodians of this massive 8ft x 4ft painting of Altrincham icon Dave O'Kell, aka "Market Dave".
"When I saw Altrincham Market's tweet saying they had discovered this painting during the Spring clean of Market House Altrincham, I knew immediately that I wanted to own it, to keep it connected to Altrincham.
Growing up I visited Altrincham weekly with my Grandparents and have many memories of hearing and seeing Dave around town doing his thing, so I'm sure many other people have fond memories of Dave too. Who was a regular sight on the town’s roads for just under half a century, in his role as a rag and bone man." Says Steven from vh_interiors.
The art work was created by artist Hazel Beresford and children from Broomwood’s G-Force charity and installed inside Altrincham Market Hall in 2009 as part of a larger mural (See 2009 Messenger article here).
We can only assume it was put into storage during the regeneration of Altrincham Market in 2014 where it remained undiscovered until 2020.
