Have a Merry Vintage Christmas!

When you think back to your favourite Christmas times, the ones that really did bring you comfort and joy, which ones do you think of? Nine times out of ten you will probably think of times from your childhood, because of the comforting feeling of nostalgia! When the magic of Christmas really did exist and everything had a sense of occasion about it.

To bring back that nostalgic feeling, we can't think of any better way than adding vintage pieces to your decor.  Pieces that evoke happy memories and dress your home in a unique and personal way.

Here's five simple ways you can add vintage pieces to your Christmas decor:

1. BOTTLE IT

Vintage glass bottles are found in almost every antique and vintage shop. They have a certain bygone feeling about them. Some even have local areas embossed on them, so finding one with the area you live on it, makes it extra special to add to your displays.

Buy a selection of bottles in varying sizes. Place the bottles in the centre of the table in a random fashion. You can then drape fresh foliage in between the bottles and add sprigs of holly or any evergreens to the bottles to add height.

If the bottle neck allows, you can even use them as candle stick holders as an alternative to traditional ones.

2. WARM UP WITH COPPER

Antique copper pieces have a beautiful warmth to them, especially when placed near candle light.

You can add copper to your decor by using copper jugs filled with festive foliage. Vintage copper trays look great with a collection of candles on them for a cosy table centre piece.

It’s also worth while remembering that vintage copper items are on trend and perfect to use all year round, they also have a lower carbon footprint than the newer mass produced homewares.

We often have a whole range of brass and copper items available to buy here in our Etsy shop!

3. THINK OUTSIDE THE BOX

Classic Christmas decor somehow has a Dickensian feel to it. To create charming little displays that you can dot around the home, find rustic wooden boxes and fill them with festive vintage curios.

Bundles of antique books tied with string add a victorian feel, add these along with fresh fruit, pine cones, candy canes, or vintage tin toys and you have yourself a lovely vintage collection that can be displayed on the mantle, in the centre of the table, or under the tree amongst the presents.

If you find a box for each person in the household, you could even use them as an alternative to stockings, meaning more space for stocking fillers!

4. PERSONAL DECORATIONS

Find ornaments that relate to yourself. For example, finding pieces that remind you of home or where you live can bring back great memories.

Take our handmade bee decorations for example. The bee is an iconic symbol of Manchester and adding this to your garlands or Christmas tree will remind you of home, wherever you are in the world.

5. TWINKLING TAXIDERMY

Cosy log cabins have always been the choice image to escape the cold winter chill.

Create your own nordic cabin vibe using our vintage taxidermy pieces.

Large antlers can be wall mounted and have choice decorations hung from the antlers, such as Christmas baubles or glass pendants.

Smaller Roe Deer antlers can be displayed amongst festive foliage or adorned with twinkling fairy lights, then displayed on the mantle, or as a table centre piece.

There's many different ways you can add Christmas charm to your home using vintage finds. The best part about using vintage pieces is that they will last a lot longer than most modern mass produce pieces, they have a lower carbon footprint and they will always add a uniqueness to your decor that no one else will have.
